Welcome to our Website!

Temple Beth Tikvah is a full service Reform congregation founded more than 30 years ago. Presently, more than 320 families participate in our worship, educational, and social programs. We are conveniently located near I-95, in the heart of the New Haven – Old Saybrook shoreline of Connecticut.

We have developed contemporary traditions reflecting our times, and our very special shoreline ambiance. Since TBT would be the only synagogue within the area, its founders envisioned policies, rituals, and practices accommodating the diversity of Jews increasingly populating the shoreline.

TBT serves as the focus of Jewish Community life on the shoreline. We are proud of our extensive programming for Jews in all the stages of life. Our Nursery and Religious Schools enjoy substantial enrollments. Our worship experiences are traditional, creative, and intellectually stimulating.

We hope you will consider becoming an active member of our vibrant Jewish community.

The Meaning of Prayer

After taking Hebrew I and Hebrew II with Cantor Goldberg during 2007-2008, the members of those classes expressed an interest in a continuing opportunity to learn more about Hebrew prayer. Starting on September 9, Cantor Goldberg will lead this monthly gathering to explore a different set of Shabbat and holiday prayers. Each month the class will look at a section of prayer, translate the prayers and talk about their purpose in the service, as well as explore musical settings. This course is best for people who are able to read Hebrew letters, though it is not necessary to be able to translate. It is also accessible for interested learners of all levels, even if they have not taking Hebrew I or II. For further information, contact Cantor Goldberg at cantor@templebethtikvahct.org.

Class schedule:

7:00 p.m. on the First Monday of every month except September and December:

2008: 9/8, 10/6, 11/3, 12/8,

Rabbinic Search Committee Update

The Search Committee is continuing its work to find a permanent rabbi for our synagogue.  As you know, our goal is to identify a rabbi who will join us beginning in July 2009. Many rabbis have expressed an interest in becoming Temple Beth Tikvah's next spiritual leader, and since July 1st, the Search Committee has received and reviewed seventeen resumes. We have met numerous times to review the candidates’ resumes and writing samples and to identify which candidates best meet our needs.
