Harold A. Besso Library

Named for one of the founding members of Temple Beth Tikvah, the Harold Besso Library is home to approximately 3300 Judaica materials. Its adult and children’s collections include classic and popular fiction and literature; young adult fiction from award winning authors; and non-fiction materials on all aspects of Judaism; biographies; and books on Israel. A growing collection of picture books, easy readers and board books for toddlers and preschoolers is also housed in the library. On the audio-visual front, the library is home to a small collection of movies, both popular and non-fiction, music, and children's VHS tapes.

The library supports the recreational reading interests of its congregants and the academic pursuits of the temple's religious school faculty and students. The collection grows through donated and purchased materials. Materials are cataloged on Resource Mate, which serves as the online catalog and circulation system.

The Harold A. Besso Library is accessible any time the temple is open, with easy self-check-out procedures for borrowers. The librarian is on duty during the school year at the following times:

Wednesdays 12:15 - 5:15 p.m.
Sundays: 9 a.m. - 12 noon

Librarian: Linda DeRusha Phone: 203-245-7028, ext. 12

--Library materials (with the exception of Reference titles) will be available for loan for two (2) weeks.

--Materials can be renewed for an additional two (2)-week period.

--If items are not returned within two (2) weeks of their due date, congregant (or his/her parent or guardian if the borrower is a child) will be sent an overdue notice.

--If items are not returned within four (4) weeks of due date, a letter will be sent to the congregant informing the congregant that his/her borrowing privileges will be suspended until all overdue items are returned or paid for if lost.

--If any items are not returned by six (6) weeks after their due date, congregant will be sent a  letter explaining that he/she will be billed for replacement costs plus a $5.00 processing fee per item.  The bill will go out with the letter or shortly thereafter.

--If after paying for lost material, the material is found, the congregant may contact the librarian to determine appropriate action.
