May, 2008
Dear Fellow Congregants,
I am very pleased to announce that Rabbi Thomas Alpert
will join Temple Beth Tikvah as its "Interim" Rabbi
beginning mid-July and until a permanent Rabbi is hired
in July of 2009. Rabbi Alpert is currently serving as
Interim Rabbi at Temple Ohabei Shalom in Brookline,
Massachusetts where he will conclude his service on June
30th. At TBT, Rabbi Alpert will lead all synagogue and
community functions, including Shabbat and holiday
services, life cycle events, educational programming,
and pastoral counseling and more.
Before joining the rabbinate in 2000, Rabbi Alpert was
an attorney, and for many years, he served as the
Assistant Attorney General for the State of
Massachusetts. Rabbi Alpert earned both a Masters in
American History and a law degree from Harvard
University and was ordained at Hebrew Union College's
Jewish Institute of Religion in 2000. He also has roots
in Connecticut as he graduated with a B.A. from Yale
University.
As you know, over the past few months, the Rabbi Search
Committee interviewed candidates for the permanent
position of rabbi of Temple Beth Tikvah. However, the
Committee was not able to identify a rabbi from this
current pool of applicants. Therefore, the Search
Committee will re-open the search to a new pool of
candidates with a hire date of July, 2009.
The search committee, as well as the professional staff
at TBT, have met and interviewed Rabbi Alpert, and there
is consensus among all that he is a very special rabbi
who can meet all of our requirements for a spiritual
leader for the upcoming year. In addition, Rabbi Alpert
is highly skilled as an "interim" rabbi, and thus will
be very helpful to our community in this transitional
year.
Rabbi Alpert's colleagues, as well as his congregants
and the lay leaders with whom he has worked, all
recommend him as a man with a passion for worship,
learning, and building community. I look forward to
introducing you to Rabbi Alpert upon his arrival in
July, and you will receive information about dates to
meet him once they are finalized.
I thank you for your patience over the past months and
look forward to the continuing journey ahead.
B'shalom,
Sue Groll
President
