What is
Sisterhood?
Sisterhood is the
organization of the women of Temple Beth Tikvah who come
together for friendship, social activities, study, and
programs to benefit our Temple, our community, and
ourselves; and work as a Jewish woman in a Jewish
atmosphere.
Why
Sisterhood?
Sisterhood is a
voice and strength of Jewish women within the structure
of Temple Beth Tikvah. It provides the setting in which
women meet and work together for the congregation,
developing projects in which they are interested and
wish to be involved. Sisterhoods cooperate with other
community organizations, Jewish and non-Jewish, to
achieve faster and more effective results.
Why do you
need Sisterhood?
Sisterhood provides
an identity for the women of our Congregation.
Sisterhood also provides an outlet for the creative
energy, talent, and leadership potential for the
individual Jewish woman.
Sisterhood will
give you a worldwide identity too, through its
affiliation with the Women of Reform Judaism, a
federation of more then 600 Sisterhoods with 100,000
members throughout the United States, Canada, and
overseas.
What
does Sisterhood do?
Sisterhood includes
activities and programs that its members feel would be
valuable to them, their families, their congregation,
and to their communities.
The weight of the
opinion of Women of Reform Judaism is made known in
world affairs through its United Nations affiliation
and, in national affairs, through advocacy. Fundraising
remains a part of the Sisterhood program, to help
finance religious school, our library, our Temple itself
and our community activities.
Why
does Sisterhood need you?
Sisterhood needs
the support of the women of Temple Beth Tikvah. All of
us, whether mother, daughter, sister, aunt, or wife who
are members of our Temple, are needed as members of our
Sisterhood. We live in a complex, complicated world.
More women are working, if not full-time, then
part-time. Family structure is changing. Sisterhood is
a way of belonging, being a part of a group and being
given the chance to make a significant contribution to
our society, our family and ourselves. |
